Le professeur Slim Laghmani, candidat de la Tunisie, a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lu juge au Tribunal international du droit de la mer (TIDM) pour le mandat 2026-2035, d\u00e8s le premier tour des \u00e9lections organis\u00e9es le jeudi 18 juin 2026 au si\u00e8ge des Nations Unies \u00e0 New York, \u00e0 l\u2019occasion de la trente-sixi\u00e8me r\u00e9union des \u00c9tats parties \u00e0 la Convention des Nations Unies sur le droit de la mer.<\/p>\n
Le Tribunal international du droit de la mer est une institution judiciaire internationale charg\u00e9e du r\u00e8glement des diff\u00e9rends li\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation et \u00e0 l\u2019application du droit de la mer. Il statue notamment sur les litiges relatifs aux espaces maritimes, \u00e0 la navigation, \u00e0 l\u2019exploitation des ressources marines, \u00e0 la protection de l\u2019environnement marin ainsi qu\u2019aux questions relevant de la Convention des Nations Unies sur le droit de la mer. Son si\u00e8ge est \u00e9tabli \u00e0 Hambourg, en Allemagne. Cette juridiction est compos\u00e9e de 21 juges ind\u00e9pendants \u00e9lus pour un mandat renouvelable de neuf ans.<\/p>\n
Dans\u00a0un communiqu\u00e9 publi\u00e9 sur sa page Facebook, le minist\u00e8re des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res a soulign\u00e9 que cette \u00e9lection, qui co\u00efncide avec la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration du 70\u1d49 anniversaire de la cr\u00e9ation du minist\u00e8re, constitue une distinction importante pour la Tunisie et refl\u00e8te la confiance accord\u00e9e aux comp\u00e9tences tunisiennes au sein des institutions juridiques internationales. Elle t\u00e9moigne \u00e9galement du rayonnement scientifique, juridique et acad\u00e9mique de la Tunisie aupr\u00e8s de la communaut\u00e9 internationale.<\/p>\n

Le minist\u00e8re a \u00e9galement mis en avant le parcours du professeur Slim Laghmani, consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l\u2019un des plus \u00e9minents sp\u00e9cialistes du droit international public et du droit de la mer aux niveaux r\u00e9gional et international.<\/p>\n
Cette r\u00e9ussite est le r\u00e9sultat d\u2019efforts diplomatiques soutenus men\u00e9s par le minist\u00e8re des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res, de la Migration et des Tunisiens \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9tranger, conform\u00e9ment aux orientations du Pr\u00e9sident de la R\u00e9publique. Ces efforts ont d\u00e9but\u00e9 par l\u2019obtention du soutien de l\u2019Union africaine \u00e0 la candidature tunisienne, avant de se poursuivre \u00e0 travers des consultations et contacts bilat\u00e9raux avec les \u00c9tats parties.<\/p>\n
Les missions diplomatiques tunisiennes \u00e0 New York, Addis-Abeba, Gen\u00e8ve ainsi que l\u2019ensemble des ambassades tunisiennes ont \u00e9galement contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 mobiliser un large soutien international en faveur de cette candidature.<\/p>\n
Cette \u00e9lection rev\u00eat une importance particuli\u00e8re puisqu\u2019elle renforce la repr\u00e9sentation du continent africain et du monde arabe au sein du Tribunal international du droit de la mer. Elle confirme \u00e9galement l\u2019engagement constant de la Tunisie en faveur de la l\u00e9galit\u00e9 internationale, du r\u00e8glement pacifique des diff\u00e9rends et du renforcement de l\u2019\u00c9tat de droit.<\/p>\n
